The Crocodile Cafe was opened April 30, 1991 by Stephanie Dorgan, formerly a discontented lawyer who loved music and loathed law practice. Ms. Dorgan was a fan of many of the burgeoning crop of Seattle bands, and noticed that there were very few Seattle venues showcasing those bands in the late eighties. The proverbial light bulb flashed in her head one day, and she decided to open a club that would be a good place to hear live music and to have a drink or a meal as well. Raising minimal funds, she located a long-empty building in the wonderfully eclectic Belltown area of Seattle and set to work.

The Crocodile opened in Spring of 1991 with a live music room, an adjacent restaurant and a separate lounge. Six months later, Nirvana's Nevermind blasted up the charts and "The Seattle Music Scene" became national knowledge.

Over the years, many talented musicians have graced the Crocodile's stage, as well as the occasional poetry slam, stage play or circus side show.

The Crocodile Cafe is pleased to offer a eclectic and original format of live music and performance. We are proud to be a part of Seattle's diverse and artistic community. The Croc welcomes all patrons but does not tolerate bigotry, sexism, or racism in any form.

Directions: The Crocodile Cafe is located on the corner of 2nd and Blanchard streets in downtown Seattle.

From I-5 North: take the Stewart St. exit, drive toward downtown on Stewart and make right on 3rd Ave. At Bell St. make left, then 1st left on 2nd. The Croc is one block up on left side of street. 2200 2nd Ave.

From I-5 South: Take the Seneca St. exit. From Seneca make right on 3rd Ave travel north on 3rd past Westlake Center. Make left on Bell St. the 1st left on 2nd go one block on left. 2200 2nd Ave.
