Kore Ionz
Kore Ionz
Kore Ionz (pronounced kor EYE-ons) is the project of Hawaii-born singer-songwriter and producer Daniel Pak. The Seattle Weekly describes his voice as sounding “like it was birthed right in the heart of New Orleans, with enough jazz heart to lead a Jamaican revolution of peace and love.” Along with his Seattle-based band, Pak has shared the stage with The Wailers, Toots and the Maytals, Steel Pulse, and many more of reggae’s founding fathers since dropping his first album of island style melodies and rhythms in 2008.

Kore Ionz will release the new single “Superhero” in February 2017 on their label Fire Spider. Pak teamed up once again with filmmaker Terrence Jeffrey Santos (Sam Choy’s Poke to the Max, The Otherside) to produce the music video for the single, which tackles the themes of police brutality, rape culture, and domestic violence, all to the beat of an uplifting reggae song with the tag “I will rescue you.”

“We’re all born with love,” says Pak. “We’re also born with fear. But we’re not born with hate. Hate is learned. Every time I sing a song, I’m just trying to put out more love and aloha to combat the hate. Cause it’s still out there. Bringing people together is the mission.”

Kore Ionz scored a hit in 2011 with the song “Love You Better,” which went to #1 on commercial radio in Hawai`i. The “poignant love letter,” as The International Examiner calls it, describes the emotions Pak felt just months before his first son was born. Also in 2011, Pak joined forces with renowned Seattle rapper Prometheus Brown (Blue Scholars) on “First Avenue.”

Members of Kore Ionz include Teo Shantz (drums), Masa Kobayashi (bass), Max Levin (keyboards), Owuor Arunga (trumpet), Darian Asplund (saxophone), and Greg Kramer (trombone).
Stay Grounded
Stay Grounded
As the tectonic landscape of Northwest Reggae shifted in 2013, Stay Grounded rose from the depths, born from, and rooted to the indigenous music of the worlds people. A true cross-pollenation of the purest forms of Hawaiian, African, Afro-cuban, Jazz and R&B is evident in a powerhouse collection of originals that rumble the foundation while honoring tradition. Members of SG have studied traditional Ukelele and Hawaiian harmonies, the sacred arts of both the conga and the djembe, classical percussion, jazz saxaphone and choral and r&b vocals. Passions and influences range as wide and deep as the ocean, from Bob Marley to Bootsy Collins, from Michael Brecker to Marvin Gaye.
Members of this group have shared stages and toured with luminaries such as Natural Vibrations, Slightly Stoopid, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wyclef Jean, Steel Pulse, Third World, 311 and more! Collectively, Stay Grounded has shared bills and forged relationships with The Green, Anuhea,, Common Kings, Katchafire and more! Stay Grounded's sound has been compared to Common Kings, Natural Vibrations, The Green, Figi and Katchafire, yet they strive to stay original, and place an emphasis on proprietary music at their high-energy live shows.
Stay Grounded is scheduled to release their long anticipated self-titled debut in Spring of 2015, recorded and mixed at Pacific Studios in Tacoma, WA. It sounds at once old and new, it honors doctrine and deviance, it feels sweet and sultry. Take a powerhouse rhythm section that's funky, soulful and tribal, with crucial Hawaiian and R&B harmonies, melt it to magma and put it under pressure at the base of a Polynesian volcano. The result is guaranteed.
Stay Grounded will blow you away!
